Customer information
Service Terms
Effective September 1, 2026
1. Scope and authorization
Services are limited to the work described in the appointment, estimate, invoice, ticket or other written scope. The customer confirms that they own the equipment or are authorized to request work on it and authorizes Barker IT Solutions to access the devices, accounts, networks and business systems reasonably necessary to perform the approved work.
Work outside the listed scope or time allowance of a fixed-price service is billed at $125 per hour in 30-minute increments. Barker IT Solutions will explain the additional work and obtain customer approval before additional charges are incurred.
2. Scheduling and cancellations
Appointments are offered primarily during evenings and weekends and are subject to availability. Barker IT Solutions does not charge a cancellation fee. Customers are asked to provide as much notice as reasonably possible when cancelling or rescheduling so that the appointment can be offered to another customer.
Barker IT Solutions is not a 24/7 emergency service and does not guarantee immediate or after-hours response.
3. Estimates, deposits and payment
Fixed prices or written estimates apply only to the stated scope. Routine service appointments do not require a deposit and, unless otherwise agreed in writing, payment is due when invoiced. Available payment methods will be shown on the invoice.
Custom projects with estimated labor of $500 or more may require a 50% deposit. Hardware, software, subscriptions and special-order materials may require advance payment before they are ordered. Monthly service plans are paid in advance. Any required deposit or advance payment will be shown in the estimate and must be paid before the applicable work or purchase begins.
4. Customer responsibilities
- Provide accurate information about the problem, equipment and relevant history.
- Provide safe and reasonable access to the work area, equipment, power and network.
- Maintain valid licenses and subscriptions for software and services.
- Make an authorized adult available for residential appointments when required.
- Review recommendations and promptly disclose any special security, compliance or operational requirements.
5. Accounts, passwords and remote access
Written or recorded customer authorization is required before Barker IT Solutions accesses customer accounts or business systems. Whenever practical, customers should enter passwords and multifactor-authentication codes themselves. Passwords will not be intentionally retained in tickets, invoices, email or text messages unless storage is necessary for an expressly authorized service and an appropriate secure method is agreed upon.
Remote-support access is used only with customer authorization for the requested service. Customers may end a remote session at any time. Unattended or ongoing remote access requires separate agreement.
6. Backups and risk of data loss
Technology work can involve risks including data loss, corruption, service interruption or hardware failure. Customers are responsible for maintaining a current backup of important data. When feasible, Barker IT Solutions will confirm or create an appropriate backup before migrations or material system changes, but no backup or recovery process can be guaranteed.
7. Equipment custody
Equipment will be removed from the customer’s location only with permission. Barker IT Solutions will use reasonable care while equipment is in its possession and will document material items accepted for off-site service. Customers should remove unrelated valuables and disclose fragile, damaged or unusually configured equipment in advance.
8. Travel, products and materials
Standard travel within 30 driving miles of Jarrettsville is included in listed service prices. Appointments outside that area may be accepted at Barker IT Solutions’ discretion and may include a charge of $1 per additional round-trip mile. Any travel charge, toll or parking expense will be disclosed before the appointment is confirmed.
Hardware, parts and materials purchased by Barker IT Solutions on a customer’s behalf are billed at cost plus a 15% procurement charge, with a minimum procurement charge of $15. Shipping, taxes and special-order expenses are billed at actual cost. Software or subscriptions procured or administered by Barker IT Solutions may be billed at cost plus 10% or with a separately quoted management fee. No purchase will be made without customer approval.
Hardware, software, internet service, cloud platforms and other third-party products are governed by their providers’ warranties, licenses, availability and terms. Barker IT Solutions may recommend or configure these products but cannot control their performance, pricing, outages, policy changes or continued availability.
9. Results and limitations
Barker IT Solutions will perform services with reasonable professional care. Technology environments vary, and no particular result, uninterrupted operation, complete security or permanent resolution can be guaranteed. Recommendations reflect the information and conditions reasonably available at the time of service.
To the extent permitted by law, Barker IT Solutions will not be responsible for indirect, incidental, special or consequential losses. Any direct liability relating to a service will not exceed the amount paid for the service giving rise to the claim, except where a limitation is prohibited by law or the loss results from gross negligence or willful misconduct.
